It Takes Many Hands to Feed the World 🌍🍽️

Article by Jeff Rivera, COO

October 16, 2024

As you sit down to eat your dinner tonight, I encourage you to take a moment to imagine the journey taken by each of your meal’s ingredients on route to your plate.

Now consider just how many individual people contributed to making that meal possible. Picture the farm fields, the factories, the container ships, the trucks, the warehouses, the retail shelves and the kitchens. Think about the complexity of this journey—the miles traveled, the processes involved and the sheer coordination it takes. Each meal we enjoy is made possible by countless anonymous individuals around the globe maintaining the delicate balance of a truly interconnected food system.

On World Food Day, let’s take a moment to acknowledge this tremendous team effort. The ability of the global food supply chain to feed billions of people is a monumental achievement of humanity.

Behind every meal are businesses, organizations, individuals and communities partnering together to power the global food system. Today, let’s celebrate all that hard work, but let’s also challenge each other to think big about what more can be done to ensure safe, quality food reaches more people and fewer landfills.

To Us, Food is Everything

This year’s World Food Day theme, “Right to food for a better life and a better future,” aligns closely with what we believe at Lineage. To us, food is everything—it sustains the world, empowers communities and fosters connections. It embodies culture and heritage, inspires creativity and serves as a catalyst for innovation. Food is central to celebrations and woven into the very fabric of our lives.

Thanks to our team members, customers and partners, Lineage is able to live our purpose – to transform the food supply chain to eliminate waste and help feed the world.

Together with our direct partners and supported by a vast array of actors across the food supply chain, we are able to channel our efforts toward tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges, paving the way for a food system that meets the demands of both today and tomorrow.

Looking ahead, we are committed to creating positive change across the industry. Our focus goes beyond delivering food; we aim to build a resilient, reliable supply chain that supports a healthier future for all.

That’s why, at Lineage, we strive to work with our partners to make food more accessible and the global food supply chain more sustainable.

In that spirit and in the coming months, Lineage will be sharing insights and research into what the future of the global food supply chain could look like as we seek to inspire new ideas and find common ground to reshape how we feed the world.

Setting the Table for the Moments that Matter

As the holiday season approaches, it is crunch time for the food industry. Each of us has the opportunity to reflect on the impact our work has on our families and our communities.

Every effort we put in over these coming months contributes to bringing quality, safety and reliability from farm to table, helping create the moments that matter in each of our lives.

As we move forward, let’s continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Let’s seek to create a world where access to food is never in question—regardless of where you live.

In honor of World Food Day, I’m proud to celebrate the awesome heroes here at Lineage who play a key role in the journey your meal took from field to fork.
